Patients reported traumatic events of varying frequency (from a relatively rare incest, to much more frequent sense of lack of sex education). ![]() ![]() In the group of 2582 females and 1347 males, there was a significant prevalence of symptoms related to sexuality, as well as of other neurotic symptoms. The coexistence of the earlier life circumstances and currently present symptoms was examined on the basis of KO "0" Symptom Checklist and Life Inventory, completed prior to treatment in a day hospital for neurotic disorders. So far, an increase of the risk with the accumulation of traumatic factors has been indicated, but less attention has been paid to adverse events such as lack of sexual education, negative attitudes of the caregivers towards sexuality, etc.Īssessment of the risk of such adverse events in childhood and adolescence, concerning the symptoms from the area of sexuality as well as other neurotic disorders areas. There is an ample evidence of the impact of severe traumatic events, such as sexual abuse in childhood, on the formation of disorders-especially the non-psychotic ones: sexual, neurotic and personality.
